KwaDukuza’s Menzi Nxumalo shines beyond the silver screen

For this work, Nxumalo was nominated for the Founder of the Year Awards (FOYA), which celebrates game-changers in countries across Africa.

KwaDukuza’s Menzi Nxumalo may be most comfortable on the silver screen, but his heart is all gold.

The Uzalo actor was recently nominated for a continental award in recognition of his off screen work through his Nokusa charity.

Nokusa Support for Disabled People is a non-profit founded by Nxumalo in 2018 which helps to make the lives of the disabled in KwaZulu-Natal easier.

The charity raises funds to promote accessibility and source wheelchairs for those who cannot afford them, while also offering skills workshops.

For this work, Nxumalo was nominated for the Founder of the Year Awards (FOYA), which celebrates game-changers in countries across Africa.

Originally just for Kenyans, the award has since grown to include South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria, Ghana and Zambia.

Nxumalo was nominated in the social category for affecting social change in his community.

“It’s an honour to be nominated with other African brothers and sisters. For me, my role is to motivate every young person in KwaDukuza to never give up and always dream big,” he said.

“KwaDukuza is a small town but with so much talent and it’s time we put it on the map with movies and TV shows in the area.”

Nxumalo has acted in a number of popular shows, including DurbanGen, iMbewu, Smoke and Mirrors and Uzalo.

The awards ceremony will be held in Johannesburg on February 10.
