Update: Another body found in Tongaat

The man and his partner attempted to escape the floods on Saturday night but got swept away.

The body of a man who was swept away during Saturday’s floods was discovered in Tongaat today.

The man and his partner attempted to escape when their home was flooded on Saturday night but were carried away by the floodwaters.

His partner’s body was found on Monday night.

Samantha Meyrick of IPSS Medical Rescue reported that after several hours of searching today, Umhlali K9 officer Clinton Odayar’s dog Dante located the man’s body several kilometres downriver from the point where he had washed away.

Meyrick said owing to the inaccessible terrain where the body was discovered, a Saps Airwing helicopter had to be used to retrieve the body.

After recovered it was handed over to the Tongaat police.

She said this mission was one of K9 Dante’s final assignments as he approaches a well-deserved retirement.
