Tongaat Secondary School pupil Zamajobe Sithole crowned SPAR Superstar 2023 winner [Watch]

Tongaat’s Zamajobe Sithole (17) was thrilled to be crowned the senior KwaZulu-Natal SPAR Superstar winner for 2023.

The Tongaat Secondary School Grade 11 pupil was thoroughly deserving of the honour and joins an illustrious list of previous winners who have used the confidence boost as a springboard for greater things.

Zamajobe is the kind of pupil who finds time to give back to her classmates and is active on a number of school clubs, including the Interact Rotary Club and Teenagers Against Drug Abuse.

This aside from being a school prefect and one of the academic powerhouses of her grade.

“I am so grateful to be this year’s senior winner and it is truly something I did not expect. Thank you to SPAR KZN, my teachers at Tongaat Secondary and to The North Coast Courier for choosing me in the first place,” she said.

She was picked from a list of hundreds of monthly Superstars from across the province and joins Nqobile Radebe from Athlone Park Primary School who claimed the junior title.

For their efforts, the duo both won a R5 000 SPAR gift card and a packed hamper with plenty of treats as reward for getting through the end-of-year exam period.

“We were touched by Zamajobe’s efforts to make her school a better place for her classmates,” said advertising and sponsorship manager for SPAR KZN, Nozipho Mkhize.

“She is certainly deserving of the prizes and we look forward to seeing what she does over the next few years.”

Junior Winner Athlone Park Primary School pupil Nqobile Radebe says she feels honoured after being announced as the overall Primary School category winner in the KwaZulu-Natal SPAR Superstar competition.

She was all smiles as she collected her prize, a R5 000 voucher from SPAR management at the school last week.

The Grade 4 pupil said she plans to use her voucher to give back to the community.

“Firstly, I would like to thank SPAR for choosing me as the overall winner and those who voted for me. I will utilise my voucher to assist needy children.
“I have decided to buy school uniforms for impoverished children in the community and also use the voucher for my Peanut Butter Campaign, which brings a smile to needy children and pupils in local schools,” she said.

Besides academics, Nqobile also excels in modelling and has won a number of beauty competitions.

She is also known for protecting herself and her peers from bullies. In her first year at the school, Nqobile managed to protect herself from a known bully by reporting her incident to the teachers.

She recently established a non-profit organisation (NPO) called Smile of a Child, which she uses to donate peanut butter and various gifts to local children.

School principal John Vorster said he was delighted and proud of his pupil winning the overall SPAR junior competition.

“I am exceptionally proud of her and the great difference she is making in the community through her campaigns. I believe she has received the strength to go far with her work of changing the community for the better,” the principal said.

Nicole Bérichon, Caxton Durban business manager, lauded SPAR KZN for supporting the competition.

“On behalf of Caxton Local Media, I would like to thank SPAR for their support. With their help we published the superstars every month. If it was not for SPAR, we would not have published these amazing superstars that we have in our communities. “Make sure the school nominates your child, and we love showcasing what the superstars are made of,” she said.

SPAR KZN advertising and sponsorship manager Nozipho Mkhize applauded Nqobile’s efforts.

“She is doing amazing work at her young age in the school and community. We are proud to present her with this R5 000 voucher.

“I was impressed by the fact that she protects her peers from bullies and that she also established a NPO, which she uses to give back to the needy,” said Nozipho.

She said they are committed to inspiring and creating a great platform for children to realise their dreams.

Nozipho also extended her gratitude to Caxton Local Media for their collaboration in the competition which highlights the achievements of learners across the province.
