A walk against gender-based violence and human trafficking drew large support two weekends ago as participants armed with placards took off from Concha Café at Ballito Village.
Organised by the Rise Up Movement, the event attracted about 120 people.
The Rise Up Movement’s mission is to raise awareness about critical issues such as human rights, gender-based violence, human trafficking and child abuse.
Organiser and movement founder, Josha Daniel, said the walk was about empowering victims.
“We want to equip victims with information they need when laying charges, also guiding them on what comes after,” he said.

He said abuse victims often feel discouraged to follow through after reporting a case because at times it can feel as though they are forced to relive the initial trauma.
Daniel expressed his appreciation to sponsors and the community for their support of the walk.
