Although fun was the primary goal, the Fire Department's presentation also focused on fire safety, what to do in an emergency and career options as firefighters.

The children of Osizweni Primary School were thrilled with their recent weekend visit to Ballito.

In an outing sponsored by the Ballito Lions, 50 children and three teachers were hosted at the scout hall in Townsend Park for a morning of fun.

Sanele Mtiki (12) makes a good save after Siyakudumisa Coyi rockets one towards the top corner.

The pupils aged 8 to 14 danced in the hall, played a variety of sports on the nearby facilities and enjoyed the highlight of the day, a visit from the Ballito Fire Department.

All involved got breakfast, lunch and a take-home package of essential food items too.

Melathi Nazo (9), Nothando Nguqu (10), Akhona Zenyusi (9), Esona Shongwane (9) and Sisanda Cele (10) enjoyed some netball on the nearby courts.

“Before Covid we used to do this twice a year for various schools but it fell away for a while. We are very grateful to be able to host the children again and bring them some joy,” said Ballito Lions project director, Paul Naidoo.

Although fun was the primary goal, the Fire Department’s presentation also focused on fire safety, what to do in an emergency and career options as a firefighter.

The children were later able to frolic in foam sprayed by the truck.
