Land invasion crushed in Sheffield Beach

Four people were removed and their wooden shacks taken down on Seaton Delaval property this afternoon.

They stood in disbelief as they watched private security dismantle their newly built homes in Sheffield Beach this afternoon.

Two young couples were removed from the Seaton Delaval property after invading the land that was intended to become an exclusive equestrian estate.

What was going to be a new home is now just a pile of wooden planks.

The woman in her mid twenties, who asked to remain anonymous, said they had paid for the land that they were now being chased away from.

“We paid R350 for this land.

“My sister moved here about two months ago and told us about the man who sold the land.

“We bought some land and the building material and starting building our homes,” she said, pointing further south into the bushes.

Umhlali SAPS spokesperson captain Vinny Pillay explained to the two couples that the land was private property.

“You cannot build here.

“You can come collect your building material, but after that you cannot come back,” said Pillay.

Further south, behind the plot they were standing on were more established wooden shacks which Pillay said had been built on KwaDukuza municipal land.

“The municipality has given them eviction notices, but they are still here.

“We will remove them next week,” he said.
