Ilembe mayor leads Thuma Mina campaign

During their visit, it was found that that illegal water connections, water loss and vandalism of infrastructure plagued the area.

Ilembe officials spent two days getting to the root of problems faced by some Mandeni residents as part of the Thuma Mina campaign.

Launched by president Cyril Ramaphosa earlier this year, the election campaign is aimed at reconnecting government to the people by helping solve the problems they face.

Led my Ilembe mayor Sduduzo Gumede, officials visited residents of Ward 7, Mandeni last Thursday and Friday to address the district’s main challenge – water shortages and water loss.

During their visit, it was found that that illegal water connections, water loss and vandalism of infrastructure plagued the area.

During the two day campaign, councillors went from door to door checking meters, registering those who were illegally connected, registering indigent applicants and raising awareness about the importance of paying for municipal services.

Ilembe mayor Sduuduzo Gumede said, “We are committed to working with the people to create a better life for all and to improve our communities.”
