UPDATE: That sinking feeling no more (hopefully) for Darnall residents

The duration of the work is expected to be eight months.

After nearly a whole year, Darnall and Zinkwazi residents will be overjoyed to learn repairs are planned on the monstrous hole in the P445 road.

The Department of Transport (DoT) has appointed a contractor to tackle the huge sinkhole on the road to Zinkwazi, said the DoT’s Zain Ebrahim.

Residents and commuters on the road have been watching for months as the hole in the road grows ever larger. Ebrahim told the Courier the contract had been awarded to Makhubhu Civils.

“The delay in awarding the contract was attributed to the due course of environmental authorisation which has now been received,” he explained.

Ebrahim said work on the sinkhole was scheduled to begin last week, “with establishment and traffic accommodation, while the programme and other contractual documentation is submitted for approval.”

However, as of Monday morning this week there were still no signs of any work taking place.

The duration of the work is expected to be eight months.
