Glenhills water safe to drink

As a precaution, the municipality scoured the water from the newly charged line.

Water from the newly commissioned pipeline from the Balancing reservoir to Kearsney, Glenhills has been confirmed as safe to drink after being tested by the Ilembe municipality.

After being inundated with calls from concerned Glenhills residents questioning the odour and colour of the water from the newly commissioned pipeline, the municipality sampled the water from a residential home.

“The results analysed suggest that the water is fit for human consumption in terms of its physical and chemical parameters,” said water quality manager Raynund Ganesh.

“The microbiological tests also showed no contamination of bacteria but this test was somewhat compromised due to length of time taken to test the water.”

The municipality took another sample last week for analysis to confirm the water quality in terms of its fitness for human consumption.

“This will be reported as well. The odour test is still outstanding since it had to be outsourced. The results show that residents should feel safe consuming the water,” said Ganesh.

As a precaution, the municipality scoured the water from the newly charged line and increased chlorine dosage into the reservoir to minimise the chance of contamination of the water supplied to the Glenhills (Ward 13) community.
