TRAFFIC UPDATE: N2 toll plaza operators strike

This is a developing story. Updates to follow.

Staff of South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) have taken to the N2 today (Monday) to protest at the various toll plazas between Marianhill and Mtunzini.

It is currently unclear as to why the staff are protesting.

According to Paul Herbst of IPSS Medical Rescue, Tongaat toll plaza was severely congested early this morning, but has since reopened due to heavy police presence.

Quentin Power of the Specialised Rescue Unit said most of the protest action is taking place at the toll plaza offices.

The Mvoti toll is clear, however the N2 southbound lane at the toll is unmanned.

Debris is still scattered across parts of the road and motorists are advised to drive with caution.

Vinny Pillay of Umhlali SAPS has confirmed that there is also protest action taking place on the R102 at Nkobongo, Shakaskraal, however the road is still open.

Updates to follow.
