WATCH: Wind strips roof from Curro Mt Richmore school at Salt Rock

The extent of the damage to the school is yet to be confirmed

The strong gusting wind that hit the North Coast this afternoon has left considerable damage in its wake.

The destruction of the roof of the computer IT lab at Curro Mt Richmore school at Salt Rock was captured on video this afternoon.

Apparently the headmaster, with the help of some teachers, was able to recover some of the computer equipment but the extent of the damage is not yet known.

Reports of an approaching cyclone are unfounded.

According to South African Weather Services forecaster Julius Mahlangu, the wind speed was earlier at 33-44 knots at the King Shaka International Airport.

“The wind started from the south and moved northward arriving at Durban about two hours ago and has now reached Richard’s Bay. It should die down by 9 pm tonight.”
