The end of a bumpy ride on the Dolphin Coast?

Unlike last December, construction workers were now digging up large portions of the roads and then restoring them

Dolphin Coast motorists can breathe a sigh of relief after the KZN transport department (DOT) finally took to repairing some of the badly damaged roads that have for years (up to five years in some cases) been a nightmare for motorists.

With shovel in hand, DOT workers have so far completed repairs on the potholed roads in Salt Rock in front of Brettenwood Estate, the R102 near Ballito/Compensation and the Umhlali circle. Repairs are still continuing.

While the roads have not been completely resurfaced, according to DA Ward 22 councillor Malcolm Hubner the repair work has been more thorough then previous patch-up jobs.

“Last year before Christmas, DOT showed up to fill up the potholes but that lasted about a week before it fell apart again. They are not resurfacing the road, which would have been ideal but it seems like they are doing a proper job at repairs.”

Hubner said unlike last December, construction workers were now digging up large portions of the roads and then restoring them.

He said after many failed attempts at meeting with DOT officials, he was glad to see repairs were finally being done and hoped they would last.

Sheffield resident Sandra Cossey-Erasmus said she had never been happier to see road works being done.

“I almost have a panic attack when I drive through the Umhlali circle.

“Those potholes were huge and caused serious damage to my tyres and alignment. I do hope that the transport department monitors these roads and repairs damages sooner rather than later.”

Deep potholes on the R102 near Ballito Compensation were repaired by the KZN transport department last week.
