Ilembe bags seventh ‘Best IDP’ award

Ilembe also walked away with an award for Good Governance and Public Participation along with five other municipalities in KZN

Ilembe District Municipality on Friday bagged its seventh consecutive award for producing one of the most credible Integrated Development Plans for the 2016/2017 financial year at the KZN Provincial Back to Basics Launch at the Royal Show Grounds in Pietermaritzburg.

Back to Basics was first launched in February 2015 and is the government’s plan of action to ensure a focused and strengthened local government by getting the basics right and together with other spheres of government, providing basic services efficiently and effectively in a caring manner.

Ilembe also walked away with an award for Good Governance and Public Participation along with five other municipalities in KZN.

The launch was organized by the KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and was attended by all district and local municipalities in the province.

It was at this celebration where the provincial department also recognized the excellent work of municipalities that have obtained best IDPs for the 2016/2017 financial year.

The District municipality also received the best performing development planning shared services award.

Mayor Cllr Siduduzo Gumede accepted the awards on behalf of council.

Before the awards ceremony, all district mayors, SALGA KZN Chairperson Cllr ME Ndobe and the MEC for COGTA signed a memorandum of understanding recommitting to implement the Back to Basics principles.
