The KwaDukuza council has hit another bump on the road in their second failed attempt to meet with the transport department to discuss important and ongoing road work projects.
Frustration and fury mounts as both residents and KwaDukuza councillors wait for answers from the transport department on road work projects that have been on the council’s agenda for up to four years.
Three weeks ago, a special council meeting between the KwaDukuza council and the department had been planned to discuss the plans and budget for road work projects that included Salt Rock Road at Tiffany’s, the R102 entrance to Umhlali, the Sheffield Beach Road and plans for a pedestrian crossing on the R74 opposite Stanger Hospital. However, the meeting was postponed to December 8 due to the officials from the department showing up unprepared.
On that day the executive mayoral committee arranged to meet with the officials once again to go over the issues that were scheduled to be discussed at that council meeting the next day. Council members were outraged when the department sent a junior member who did not have any knowledge about the road issues, to represent the department.
DA Ward 22 councillor Malcolm Hubner said he had been fighting the battle to get the roads fixed for years and the fact that the transport department shows no interest is insulting.
“They are dodging answering our questions and they are full of excuses. The fact that they sent someone who is not in a serious ranking at the department is unacceptable and insulting. The meeting on December 8 was cancelled because there was no point in meeting with someone uninformed and someone who could not give us the answers we need.”
The municipality intends to hold another meeting with the transport department next week.
