Robbers hold-up guard at Umhlali BP

Bullets flew in Umhlali last night when G4S security officers attempted to apprehend the robbers.

The security guard at Umhlali BP garage was able to escape his captors and raise the alarm last night, preventing them from getting away with the loot.

The guard had been held up at gunpoint at about 11pm last night when four men attempted to rob the garage.

According to the garage manager, Vollen Singh, two of the robbers were armed.

“They tied him up and left him in the bushes next to garage,” said Singh.

“They then untied him and told him to walk around as if he was patrolling, while two of them were busy trying to break in. They got in through the female toilet sealing board,” said Singh.

The security guard took the opportunity to escape, bolting towards the robots opposite Umhlali Preparatory School, where he found some G4S security officers.

“The G4S guards tried to apprehend the robbers and shots were fired both ways, but they managed to escape.

“No one was injured and nothing was taken. Still the damages will be about R200 000,” said Singh.
