Ballito traffic alert

A stop-and-go system is in place at Compensation Beach Road where resurfacing has begun.

The resurfacing of Compensation Beach Road has begun and only one lane is open to traffic.

A stop-and-go system is in place and motorists can expect delays.

“I am thrilled at the infrastructure development that is taking place in Ballito,” said Colin Marsh, Ward six councillor.

He said the road upgrade was meant to start in December but was purposefully delayed until Wednesday, February 3 to avoid traffic chaos during the holiday season.

Resurfacing has started from the Hawkins Road intersection and will be done up to the end of Compensation Beach Road at La Montagne.

“The road upgrade will be completed before Easter.”

There is good news for Sheffield Beach residents too.

Phase two of the upgrading of Colwyn Drive is expected to start after the completion of the Compensation Beach Road resurfacing project.

This will involve upgrading the remaining 1.4 kilometre stretch of road, including the part that was damaged when a cargo ship ran ashore in 2011, leading to dramatically increased traffic volumes of people flocking to the area to see the shipwreck.
