Thembeni residents rampage over RDP housing dispute

The N2 remains closed.

More than 1500 Thembeni residents went on the rampage this morning, allegedly setting fire to the Zikhuluse Construction base in Thembeni and blockading the N2 and R102 at Groutville.

The angry mob is apparently protesting the delay in the area’s RDP housing project.

The protesters refused to speak with North Coast Courier reporter Sboniso Dlamini, pelting him with stones.

Police closed the N2 and diverted traffic away from the protesters.

The R102 is open but traffic is highly congested.

Violence on the link road between the N2 and R102 at Groutville was also reported.

This is not the first time the community has taken their grievance to the streets.

In November last year the people built fires on numerous roads in and around the township, preventing vehicles from passing.
