Mayor backs ANC war on racism march in Ballito

A march for everyone who stands against racism will take place in Ballito.

KwaDukuza municipality (KDM) mayor, Ricardo Mthembu has pleged his full support for an ANC lead march against racism in Ballito on Friday, January 22.

“It is time to rise up, join hands and  fight racism together,” said Mthembu

The ANC greater KwaDukuza has declared war on racism and will make a stand by marching through the streets of Ballito – a Democratic Alliance lead ward.

“The recent wave of racist attacks has again reminded us as the people’s movement that we have to double our efforts in ensuring that indeed South Africa becomes non-racial and a nation bound together by unity in diversity and with a shared destiny,” said ANC regional spokesperson, Lucky Makhathini.

KDM councilor Sandeep Oudhram said not everybody was racist but there were pockets of racism within the municipality and the march was for everyone who wanted to take a stand against racism.

People will be transported from areas surrounding Ballito and meet at the beach parking area at La Montagne from 9am. The march is scheduled to start at 11am.

Participants will proceed along Compensation Beach Road to Ballito central business district  and head to Sandra Road towards Ballito Drive.

From there the route is up Ballito Drive to Ballito Lifestyle Centre (BLC) where marchers will convene in a section of the BLC parking lot at around 12.30pm.

Formalities are expected to conclude by no later than 2pm after which the crowd will be dismissed.
