R12.8 million road tarring for Groutville

The project will also create some job opportunities.

The R12.8 million tarring of the Nkuboni and Madlala bus routes project in Groutville will make it possible for public transport to reach the homes of more than 600 people in the next six months.

According to ward nine councillor Nomonde Mthethwa the project is divided into two sections for bus routes to the Nkuboni and Madlala areas.

Mthethwa said there was a high demand for the roads to be tarred because the condition of the roads is so bad that taxis refuse to drive there, especially when it is raining.

“There will also be ten job opportunities at the Nkoboni project and 20 at the Madlala bus route project,” said Mthethwa.

She explained that the names for these roads are temporary, and public meetings with the ward committees would be held to come up with suitable names.

She also promised the residents that the Umgigimbe hall project would be completed by the end of this month.

Mthethwa urged residents of Malende to be patient with the municipal housing project.

Nine hundred houses were built and 100 people who had expected to receive a house, did not.

Mthethwa said the municipality is struggling to acquire more land to build those houses but as soon as they have the land, construction will begin.
