North Coast beaches closed this weekend

South African Weather Service forecasts strong winds and high seas over the weekend.

Some of the beaches on the North Coast of KZN will be closed over the weekend due to expected strong winds and high swell.

KwaDukuza lifeguard supervisor Bongani Xulu said all the beaches will be closed except for Salt Rock and Clarke Bay.

“There is going to be some hectic swell so all the beaches from Umdloti to Blythedale will be closed tomorrow,” said Xulu.

Ethekwini municipality also said the majority of Durban beaches will be closed on Friday and Saturday.

The shark safety gear at all beaches have also been removed as a preventative measure to minimise loss or damage to the nets.

Beaches that will be closed and that will have no shark safety gear includes Brighton beach, Durban beaches north of Suncoast casino, Bronze beach in Umhlanga, Umdloti, Westbrook, Willard Beach,  Thompson’s Bay and Blythedale.
