Major coup for Ballito UIP

Experienced police officer to step in as security manager.

The Ballito Urban Improvement Project kicks off on Monday, November 9 with a series of cleaning, landscaping and maintenance blitz projects targeted at improving highly visible public areas within the UIP before the start of the festive season.

A major coup for the Ballito UIP is the appointment of Umhlali SAPS deputy station commander Lt Col Dieter Fittkau as security manager and Thierry Laclezio as precinct manager.

A Salt Rock resident, Fittkau started his 27 year career in law enforcement in Ballito in 1987 and is well connected in the area.

“There is never a bad time for a new opportunity and when this one presented itself I did not hesitate in accepting the challenge. I believe I possess the necessary skills set and look forward to showcasing the benefits of the UIP. I am thankful for the lengthy period I have spent with the SAPS; my time there has been invaluable in terms of the experience obtained,” said Fittkau.

Laclezio is relocating from Durban North to Ballito, bringing operations and management skills picked up during his career in the landscaping industry.

“Ballito is a dynamic town that offers plenty to locals and visitors. Knowing that I will be involved in enhancing this offering and ensuring it grows from strength to strength is very exciting,” said Laclezio.

Enforce Security Services will secure the UIP and Greenearth Landscapes will be responsible for the landscaping.

The UIP will be tasked with lobbying the municipality for investment in economic enabling infrastructure, improving municipal services like road repairs, cleaning of beaches and grass cutting. It will also provide supplementary privately contracted services like security guards to the boardwalk, Compensation Road and the business precinct, as well as beach cleaning staff.

General maintenance, establishing a 24 hour UIP emergency number, a website and communication network will also be provided.

The UIP service will cover the entrances to Ballito from the N2 and M4, Ballito Business Park and surrounding commercial properties, Ballito Drive, Compensation Road, the boardwalk and adjacent beach.
