Water restrictions still apply

Drought tightens its grip on northern KZN dams.

With Hazelmere Dam sitting at 30.87%, water restrictions still apply for residents on the North Coast.

The drought situation is not looking any better in northern KwaZulu-Natal after it was reported that two dams supplying the Nongoma area ran dry.

Earlier this week Nongoma mayor Jeremiah Mavundla said the Vuna treatment plant and Vokwana Dam had run out of water and will transport water from Ulundi and Jozini.

In the Uthungulu District some dams have also dropped below 40%.

But Umgeni Water’s Shami Harichunder said Hazelmere Dam is one of their biggest concerns.

Harichunder said 30% water restrictions still apply and will continue to be enforced.
