A horror accident claimed the lives of 15 people after a train hit a taxi at Shaka’s Head on Monday afternoon just after 4pm.
Umhlali SAPS Warrant Officer Lutchman said the taxi was about to drop off passengers at the Shaka’s Head offramp when it failed to stop.
The taxi went through the barrier and down the embankment, landing on the railway line.
An oncoming train hit the vehicle, crushing the taxi.
Fifteen people died, one was critically injured and four others suffered moderate injuries.
Patients were transported to Stanger hospital.
