Mini jojo’s on wheels

Easier and quicker method to transport water.

The lives of rural communities and the elderly in the drought stricken Ilembe district have been made a little easier with the provision of water carrying wheelbarrows for collecting water from tankers and standpipes.

The minister of water and sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane introduced the 100 litre portable containers at a drought awareness blitz and prayer meeting held on Wednesday, July 15 at Hazelmere Dam.

The wheelbarrows are lightweight, four times the size of a 25 litre canister and have a watertight lid to prevent spillage.

The larger opening also allows for much quicker refill, meaning the water tankers can now finish two hours worth of refilling in only 30 minutes.

The wheelbarrows came as a relief for the old and frail who would not have been able to carry the normal 25 litre canisters from refilling points.
