Raising funds to help those in need

Local resident plans to help Shakashead residents who have no water, electricity or ablution facilities.

The 40 residents of Shakashead who live in tin houses next to RA Padayachee Primary School are still waiting for help. The community has no water, toilets or electricity.

Currently Tamsyn Ferreira from Alifurn Outdoor Living in the nearby business park is busy with raising funds to help them.

According to Ferreira she needs R50 000 to build bathrooms, toilets and the provision of a water standpipe for the residents and so far she has raised R16 500.

“BBS Mica Ballito have offered to supply materials at cost price, Jason and Barry Chapman have offered materials and labour, Martin Barnard and his prayer group have offered their labour and Jenita Maharaj of Beautiful You has offered to provide meal hampers to the community.”

She said Simbithi Country Club and The Association of Residential Communities has also partnered with her and they will be holding a raffle with all funds going to the project.

The raffle will take place on June 23 and 24 during the annual ARC conference being held at Simbithi.

“In order to raise the funds to date, I have been sending out emails, walking around business parks and asking my contacts to partner with me in the project,” said Ferreira.

KwaDukuza disaster management officer Tarzan Naicker said that the municipality is waiting for Ferreira to present what she has for the community, then they will take it from there.

“We appreciate all the effort she has put on raising funds for the projects and thank you to all the people and organisations for coming on board,” said Naicker.

If you want to help with donations you can contact Ferreira on 083 270 0923.
