KwaDukuza strategises with the youth

Challenges facing the development of youth addressed at Indaba.

At the two day KwaDukuza Youth Indaba this weekend KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu said the government had ensured that it brings to sharp focus the issue of development of the country’s young people.

The Youth Indaba was intended to lay out plans for young people to align themselves with government and sharpen policy instruments in a bid to deal with the development challenges.

“The achievement of the objectives of the National Development Plan requires progress on a broad front. That notwithstanding, there are three pillars that stands out. These are raising employment through faster economic growth, improving the quality of education, skills development and innovation, and building the capability of the state to play a developmental, transformative role,” said Mthembu.

He said the council is in a process of finalising the budget into the next financial year, the resolutions that were taken on the weekend would help the council determine the needs and the necessary budget to be allocated to the youth programme so that they can become role-players in the mainstream economy.

“I expect this gathering to come up with ways to improve the interventions we have already put in place in order to respond appropriately to the challenges faced by the young people of KwaDukuza,” said Mthembu.
