Roadworks: the end is near

No official completion date yet, but promise that roadworks will end soon.

Contractors promise that only a few more weeks remain of roadworks on the P445 into Ballito, but they will not commit to a completion date.

SMEC SA urban and social development general manager, Dave Duke promised that the worst is over as far as traffic delays go and that conditions will improve each week.

“The project completion is some weeks overdue as a result of delays experienced in 2014 from rain, working in traffic and slow progress on the retaining wall, but the main roadworks are now substantially complete with final road surfacing almost completed,” said Duke.

He said the uncompleted items include the vehicle and pedestrian safety barrier adjacent to Ballito Junction, signage and road markings, paved sidewalks, landscaping, correction of minor details and site tidy up.

“Motorists and pedestrians can look forward to a vastly improved environment in terms of alleviation of congestion, safety for pedestrians and improved aesthetics of the sidewalk paving and landscaping,” he said.

So unless there is a major crisis, Ballito traffic should flow smoothly and consistently in the near future and optimistically will stay that way for a long time to come.
