KwaDukuza launches disaster forum

Forum will make suggestions regarding disaster management.

KwaDukuza Municipality launched the first disaster management advisory forum at the council chambers on Friday, February 20.

The forum will be responsible for making suggestions to the council concerning the disaster management arrangements and support and contribute to knowledge management programmes in the field of disaster management in the municipality.

Further to that the forum will advise any organ of state, statutory functionary, non-governmental organisation, community or the private sector on any matter relating to disaster management.

KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu said the project will empower them with the ability and agility to systemically protect residents while helping the community to protect themselves by preparing for natural disasters.

“The municipality has a very small disaster management unit. We hope that this forum will add the much needed strength and energy,” he said.

Members of the public can communicate with the forum through the assistant manager Ashwin Panday on 083 791 2069 or e-mail ashwinp@kwadukuza.gov.za
