Stanger woman killed by electrocution

A man was injured while trying to save the woman.

Illegal connections are allegedly to blame for the death of a 37-year-old woman in Intshawini, near Stanger, this morning.

According to KZN Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert Mckenzie the woman was walking bare foot, with a bucket of water on her head.

“It is alleged that the bucket touched a low hanging live wire being used to conduct electricity, which caused water to spill out the bucket, causing sparks and electrocuting her,” said Mckenzie.

At around 7.30 am this morning KZN Emergency Medical Services paramedics were called out to assist, when they discovered that the woman had not survived.

“A man, who saw what was happening tried to come to her aid but was also injured. The 39-year-old man was in a serious condition when assessed by paramedics.”

Police are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

“People are urged to be vigilant of unsafe or illegal connections and if found to be cautious around them before reporting them to authorities. Do not tamper with electricity connections or power sources as illegal connections are dangerous and do have fatal consequences,” said Mckenzie.
