iLembe wins at World Planning Day

Ilembe District Municipality wins for good planning.

The Ilembe District Municipality (IDM) clinched two awards at the World Planning Day celebration on Friday, November 7.

The festivity, organised by the KZN cooperative governance and traditional affairs, took place at the Ebaldla Hotel in Ballito.

At the ceremony the department gave recognition to municipalities that have obtained the most credible Integrated Development Plans (IDP) for the 2014/2015 financial year.

IDM was awarded for being among the top achievers in preparing its IDP for the fifth consecutive year and also received the best performing development planning shared services award.

The awards were accepted on behalf of council by acting Ilembe municipal manager Geoffry Kumalo and district IDP planning manager Linda Mncube.

The cooperate governance department made use of the opportunity to engage stakeholders on the September 2014 draft integrated urban development framework.

The national policy framework is about managing urban development, encouraging towns and cities to become more economically efficient and socially inclusive.

The aim of the meeting was to stakeholders and open dialogue to obtain collective ideas on the agenda of urban transformation.
