Mayor presents new sports ground for Madundube

Sports ground follows four week long service delivery protest in September.

KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu met with the community of Madundube last Tuesday to announce that government will be spending R4.2 million on a sporting facility for Madundube.

The project is billed to start today.

The mayor thanked the community for agreeing to work with him to find solutions to their grievances following a four week long service delivery protest in September, which had a broad and costly impact on the social and economic order of the area. The torching of three trucks heightened the unrest, forcing motorists who travel on the provincial road, R74 to use alternative routes.

“Intolerance and intimidation should become a thing of the past. I would like to commend the community for exercising maturity by committing to work with government in finding lasting solutions and for ensuring that there is stability and social co-existence among the people in that area”, said Mthembu.

Mthembu described the project as the first page into a new chapter of peace and prosperity.
