Dolphin Coast beaches closed

Beaches to re-open early next week.

KwaDukuza municipality beaches are closed to the public.

The municipality took a decision to close its beaches yesterday, due to to bad weather conditions and as a result the shark nets being lifted.

Lifeguard supervisor Bongani Xulu confirmed this and said they would review the situation, possibly re-opening beaches early next week.

The KZN Sharks Board has also issued a statement ahead of heavy rains and flooding predicted for this weekend, saying they were closing most beaches for the weekend.

“The beaches remaining open at this stage are:  Umhlanga Main Beach, Durban beaches (excluding Country  Club, Lagoona and Tekwini), Ansteys, Amazimtoti Main beach, Winkelspruit, Sunwich Port through to Margate, Trafalgar, Leisure Bay and TO Strand on the lower South Coast.”

KZN Sharks Board operations manager Greg Thompson said bathers should check the latest bathing status at the lifeguard station at the beach before entering the water.
