Trucks burned at Ashville protests
Over a thousand people took to the streets.
Three trucks, at least one carrying timber, were set alight by an angry mob on the R74 at Ashville yesterday.
According to KwaDukuza SAPS communications officer Const S’busiso Khumalo over a thousand people took to the street yesterday in what appears to be a service delivery protest.
The protesters stoned the police and allegedly were armed, however Const Khumalo could not confirm this. The R74 remains closed between Dorinkop and Maphumolo.
KwaDukuza mayor Richardo Mthembu apparently met with the community this weekend to address their concerns. However, at this point, it is unclear what transpired at the meeting.
