Ballito in the dark, again

Trip at Driefontein substation to blame.

Flashlights, cellphone torches and perhaps even some candles are been working overtime in businesses and home across Ballito today.

The town was hit by a sudden power outage around 10am this morning, grinding business to a halt.

Some shops at the Lifestyle Centre have temporarily closed as they do not have generators.

KwaDukuza electrical engineer Nick Hall said there was a trip at the Driefontein substation.

The municipality is apparently inspecting the 15km cable to identify the exact location of the fault.

Power has been restored to some areas, but it is not clear when it will be entirely restored.
