KwaDukuza street light tenders awarded

Work has already begun in ward 22

KwaDukuza residents will hopefully not need to worry about dark streets in the near future as two new electrical contractors have been named.

KwaDukuza municipality has awarded ElectroTech Electrical the contract to look after the street lights in the “South” section of KwaDukuza which includes Ward 4, 6, 21 and 22. Nationwide Electrical has been awarded the contract for the ‘North’ section of KwaDukuza.

ElectroTech Electrical has signed a 24 month contract and has already lit up a number of streets in the area.

According to ward 22 by-election DA candidate Malcom Hubner, who has been assisting councillor Colin Marsh run ward 22, the contractors have been hard at work.

“They are doing an extension to lighting on Simbithi Drive. They also fixed lights on Salt Rock Road near Mount Richmore as well at the turn off to Brettenwood estate,” he said.

Hubner was happy to say that Electrotech have “hit the ground running”.

“Last weekend the guys were busy digging holes for new lights and there were at least 12 people on the site,” he said.

Lights are also set to be put up on Salt Rock Road going into Umhlali.

At the start of the new financial year in July, new light allocations should be made.

Tash Reddy, Electrotech’s general manager is hoping to have a good relationship with the community.

“We will work very closely with councillors, residents and the municipality as a whole to ensure all faults are fixed timeously,” Reddy said.

Ballito and Salt Rock have been without an electrical contractor since the previous contractor, Light-Be went into liquidation in September last year (‘Light-Be liquidated’, Courier, September 20, 2013).
