R1.5 bn KDM budget tabled

KwaDukuza municipality's 2014/2015 budget was approved yesterday.

KwaDukuza municipality tabled a R1.5 bn budget at a full council sitting yesterday.

The 2014/2015 budget was approved at the Shakashead community hall, in the presence of councillors and community members.

Tabling the budget mayor Ricardo Mthembu said it focuses on growing smaller businesses.

“The electorate have clearly said to us that we must develop and grow the SMMES. Our 2014/2015 Budget responds to this mandate”.

The budget has not increased drastically from the R1.2bn in 2013/2014.

A total of R1,139 billion has been allocated for operating expenditure,with R439m allocated for capital projects.

During the meeting Mthembu emphasised the importance of professionalism from the KDM councillors.

“I am appealing for a good work ethic from the councillors,” said Mthembu.

He also encouraged them to be united.

“No one should speak as an outsider. We are all working for the people of KwaDukuza, no matter which political party we represent.”
