Alleged voting station shooter to appear in court

The man was arrested for the murder of the ANC volunteer last week.

The man arrested for the murder of a ANC volunteer will appear in KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court this morning. The 28-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday, after Thando Nuh Mhlongo (30) was shot and killed outside the polling station at Lindelani community hall on Wednesday night. Mhlongo was shot minutes after the polling station closed. She was standing near an information table when she was shot, in full view of other ANC members at the station. The alleged shooter was arrested by KwaDukuza detectives after a swift investigation. KZN provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mamonnye Ngobeni, commended KwaDukuza SAPS for their excellent work. “Members of the provincial task team have taken over the investigation. We can not rule out the possibility that further suspect could be arrested in connection with the case,” said Ngobeni. On Friday IFP member Sthembiso Xulu, speaking to the Courier, claimed the bullet was meant for him. However IFP regional chair person Msawenkosi Ngidi, said he was not aware of any conflict between the ANC and IFP.
