New maths teacher for Sizani school

School has resumed since Sizani received a new mathematics teacher yesterday.

After Tuesday’s Salt Rock Road strike, Sizani Combined Primary school was once again open and running normally yesterday.

Parents locked the school gate on Tuesday morning and led pupils to the busy road where they protested, temporarily blocking traffic.

The department of education appears to have heard the parents’ plea, and a mathematics teacher appeared at the school yesterday, ready to teach.

When asked if a maths teacher had been found, Sizani principal Ntombenhle July gestured to a dapper looking man seated in her office and said with a smile, “here is our new teacher”.

The new teacher goes by the name of Simphiwe Mholngo and was excited about teaching at Sizani.

“I am from Mandeni, so I am travelling at the moment to get here but I plan to re-locate soon,” he said.

According to senior education official Dr Devan Singh, provisions will be made to postpone the mathematics tests grade nines were due to write next week.

Senior education official Dr Devan Singh spoke to parents on Tuesday during the strike.
