Water restrictions for Ballito
Abnormally high water demand, says Sembcorp Siza Water.
Ballito residents do not need to panic in light of water restrictions implemented by Sembcorp Siza Water.
Ward councillor Colin Marsh said the restrictions are temporary and panic is unnecessary.
Residents received text messages yesterday informing them that excessive use of water is banned until further notice.
In a press release Sembcorp Siza Water said it is experiencing extremely high water demand, which is abnormal for this time of year, and has had to impose restrictions.
“Hence we are banning the use of hose pipes, filling of swimming pools and water features, washing of driveways and cars and the use of irrigation systems until further notice. We will further shut down reservoirs intermittently to build storage to try and ensure we have supply during peak periods.”
The service provider has shut down water over the past two nights in conjunction with Umgeni water but this has only provided partial relief for a limited period during the day.
“We will still require shut downs of the Avondale zone at night from approximately 9pm to 6am until levels recover. These shut downs will continue until the system is stabilised.”
“Measures are being implemented to remedy the situation and we ask residents to co-operate.”
