Ilembe apologises for water disruptions

Water expected to return to Stanger and surrounds by 11pm.

The Ilembe district municipality has apologised to Darnall and Zamani Township residents for water interruptions that took place today.

They have also apologised for the quality of the water, which residents have complained is dark brown and looks dirty.

In a press release the municipality explained the interruption was caused by damaged filters at the Darnall machinery.

“Council has engaged external water scientists who have conducted research and have found the water to be suitable for human consumption. Repairs to the filters are currently underway and the municipality is working around the clock to resolve the problem.”

Water supply is also expected to be interrupted in KwaDukuza, as a result of unplanned power outages.

The Umvoti Water Works is unable to pump water to communities including the KwaDukuza central business district, Warrenton, Kearsney, Stanger Manor, Townview, Lindelani and Shakaville.

Pumping will begin at 6pm tonight and residents should have access to water by 11pm.

The municipality has asked the community to bear with them as they work on the problem. Water tankers will be sent to affected areas.

“Your patience and understanding whilst we are dealing with this matter is highly appreciated.”

There has been no response from the KwaDukuza municipality on the reason for the electricity cut.
