Taking care of the elderly is a priority for Mandeni municipality.
The municipality recently launched its very own Senior Citizens Club at Isibusisiwe Hall.
The club will create a place for the elderly to meet and socialise.
Councillor Nompumelelo Zungu said she believes it is the duty of the municipality to give the elderly a place to socialise and participate in sporting activities.
Mandeni mayor, Siphesihle Zulu echoed her sentiments but admitted there is a lot to be done.
The elderly were encouraged to form clubs ward by ward and to use the venues to sell handmade arts and crafts. The profits earned can then be used for future events for the club.
The club will be run by 16 ward members and was created with the assistance of the social development department.
