Ilembe exco councillor dies

Second death in two months.

A Mandeni-based Ilembe district municipality councilors Pamela Mnqayi died on Wednesday last week, October 22.

Mnqayi was elected to the council of Ilembe by the ANC following the 2006 local government elections but was not re-elected in 2011. She recently made her way back to council about three months ago and was a member of the amneties and the municipal public accounts committees in Ilembe.

She was born on October 10, 1968 and passed away after a short illness.

She was an active member of the ANC for many years, dating back from the days of SASCO while she was a student at the University of Durban Westville now University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Mnqayi was a member of the ANC regional executive commiitee as well as the regional working committee in 2008.

She is survived by her sons Lindani and Mfane and daughter Zama.

Mnqayi’s death comes shortly after the passing of another Ilember councillor Mammie T Hlatshwayo on September 29.

Ilembe mayor Welcome Mdabe and the council would like to extend their heartfelt condolesnces to the family and friend.

“She really was an excellent councillor and will be missed dearly by us all,” said Mdabe.
