Register to vote early during the national registration weekend from November 9 to 10 and avoid missing your chance to take part in making history.
The right to vote is a powerful part of South Africa’s young democracy.
In the 2014 national elections residents can vote at any station in South Africa whereas in the provincial elections residents can vote only in the province in which they live.
For municipal elections and by-elections residents must go to the voting station where they registered to vote.
Who can register?
You must be a South African citizen, at least 16-years-old and have a green bar-coded identity book or valid temporary identity certificate. Residents below the age of 18 can register to vote but will not be able to vote until they are 18-years-old.
When can I register?
You can apply to register at any time before the date of the election is announced. Once the President publishes the date of the election in the Government Gazette all registrations will end, so get registered now to have your say in 2014.
How do I register?
You can visit a voting station on the registration weekend from November 9 to 10 or register at an Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) office nearest to you. The closest office on the Dolphin Coast is in Stanger at the KwaDukuza municipality office on 14 Chief Albert Luthuli Street. They are open from 7.45am until 4.15pm, Monday to Friday.
Once you have applied for registration, check your status by sending an SMS with your ID number to 32810. It can take up to seven working days for your registration application to be processed.

In Ballito (Ward Six) there are two voting stations. Everyone living north of Ballito Drive will vote at the Ballito library and everyone living south of Ballito Drive must vote at the Scout Hall in Townsend Park. A special vote allows a registered voter, who cannot vote at their voting station on election day, to apply to vote on a predetermined day before election day. You can apply for a special vote if you are heavily pregnant or have a physical infirmity or disability, will be out of the country on election day, or are working as an election officer or member of the election’s security services.
