iLembe municipalities walk tall at municipal excellence awards
iLembe was named one of the best-performing district municipalities.
iLembe and its local municipalities scooped numerous accolades at the KwaZulu-Natal Municipal Excellence Awards in Durban last Tuesday.
iLembe was named one of the best-performing district municipalities, obtaining positive audit outcomes in both its financial and non-financial performances in the year 2020/21.
For this award, iLembe and its four local municipalities received gold trophies and certificates.
KwaDukuza and Mandeni local municipalities, and iLembe also received the award for “Best Sustained Financial Management”, receiving a certificate and a silver trophy each.
KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Sihle Zikalala, said in this category they were seeking to reward municipalities with the best and most sustainable financial management record.
“We remain committed to offering additional skilled personnel to support struggling municipalities to turn their finances around.”
