Nyathikazi residents welcome R23.6-million KDM housing project

The project is part of KwaDukuza municipality's slum clearance programme.

It was a joyous occasion for Nyathikazi residents (between Nonoti and Dorinkop) when Human Settlement MEC Jomo Sibiya introduced the contractor for the Nyathikazi human settlement project last Sunday.

The construction of 912 RDP houses to accommodate 753 beneficiaries will cost R23.6-million.

The KwaDukuza municipality appointed Isiphethu Development Consultants to implement stages 1, 2 and 3 of the project respectively.

KwaDukuza mayor Lindi Nhaca urged residents to look after the project because it was in their best interests to do so.

She urged residents not to sell or rent out their homes.

Sibiya said the tendency of completing such projects over 10 years must come to an end.

“But as much as we want to work with speed, we cannot compromise on quality and we must ensure there is no corruption. Beneficiaries must not be allocated houses based on relatives or political affiliation,” said Sibiya.
