KwaDukuza municipality’s business week aims to promote innovation

Acting mayor Dolly Govender said the KwaDukuza business week was aimed at promoting and empowering local economic development in KwaDukuza.

Last week local entrepreneurs and emerging operators in the SMME field met with government departments and agencies, non-governmental organisations, educational and training institutions at KwaDukuza municipality’s annual business week.

She said the week was also a strategic platform to showcase and promote innovative products and services, share information, best practices and connect with other businesses.

“This year we have also brought back the ward-based business empowerment sessions to ensure inclusive growth in rural and township communities,” said Govender.

The sessions were hosted at Shaka’s Head, Sokesimbone and Ntshawini community halls.

On the final day, Friday, November 29, an anchor session was held at Stanger High School sports field which included exhibitions of various SMME products, access to business support and government services.

Partnering with the Moses Kotane Institute and Enterprise Ilembe, business empowerment workshops, investment readiness programme for SMME’s and a technology use in business was also on offer.

iLembe Chamber of Commerce CEO, Cobus Oelofse, who partnered with KDM during the event said the municipality’s support of businesses at ward level was very promising.

“The Ilembe Chamber’s Business Support Centre will continue to work with KDM and other municipalities in our district to ensure that fledgling businesses are supported throughout the year. Our collaboration with the five municipalities, in order to ensure business support, is provided on an ongoing basis,” said Oelofse.
