DA heavy Natasha Mazzone speaks on state capture in Salt Rock

"State capture sounds like something out of a James Bond movie, but it is happening right here in parliament." - Natasha Mazzone

The African National Congress and Democratic Alliance are gearing for the upcoming elections with both confident that they can win the KwaDukuza district.

At a public DA meeting in Salt Rock on Monday evening, that attracted about 40 residents, DA MP Dean Macpherson said the party was putting the ANC on notice.

“They have two years left in government in this municipality because our vision and what we work to do every single day is to bring the ANC under 50 percent in votes for the 2019 and 2021 government elections. While that seems like far away, the work starts now.

“If we bring the ANC to 50 percent in the local government elections in 2019 then I am sending furniture removal trucks to help them prepare to leave completely in 2021.”

Responding to the DA’s comments, member of the ANC provincial committee and former ANC KwaDukuza chairperson Ricardo Mthembu said the opposition party were dreamers and they would be treated as such.

“We are confident about securing a win not only in KwaDukuza but also nationally. We are willing to accept that we did not do everything that we promised to do because of a number of challenges but we know that people are able to see the difference we have made in the 24 years we have ruled the country. We are not concerned about the opposition.”

The DA are confident they will win the next elections.

The main draw card for the DA’s event on Monday was federal council deputy chairperson Natasha Mazzone who enlightened residents on the state capture investigations.

“State capture sounds like something out of a James Bond movie, but it is happening right here in parliament.

“Until some time ago, people were not aware of what was going on until South Africans who decided enough was enough, started placing documents that contained correspondence between politicians and the Gupta brothers in strategic places for me to find.

“The DA was given 387 000 emails from the Gupta brothers on a tip-off.

“When the DA was pushing for answers, the ANC showed resistance because it was their own cronies and friends who were to be exposed. What we are aiming for is to nail the Guptas on treason which by definition means the intention to take over the state. When you try to capture nine of the biggest entities in the country, including Eskom, then your intention is state capture.”

Mazzone said while Zuma’s resignation was welcomed, Ramaphosa did not have the guts to make important decisions.

“This is the man who will not fire the very same ministers who want him out and then took on a known criminal, David Mabuza, as his deputy.

“Mabuza is currently sitting in Russia getting treatment for food poisoning for the second time. Imagine if something were to happen to Ramaphosa, will we be stuck with Mabuza as our president?”

Mazzone said the only way to change a bad government was to vote it out.

“Nothing is wrong in South Africa that cannot be fixed with what is right. People need to realise that every vote that does not come to the DA goes to the ANC,” she said.
