Government and private companies will be joining hands to enhance Ilembe’s offerings and improve infrastructure in the year ahead.
This was discussed during a two-day Ilembe growth and development summit championed by KZN cooperative governance and traditional affairs at the Ebandla Hotel and Conference Centre last week.

With the district’s population on the rise, discussions were underway to outline what changes were needed in order to enhance the district through development goals and infrastructure demands.
The goals identified are to be used to guide the review of the Ilembe district growth and development plan.
Ilembe mayor Sduduzo Gumede said the main goals were identified as economic growth, infrastructure, governance and policy, spatial equity and environmental sustainability.
“This was a critical step in the process of reviewing and updating our plan. The objectives will be achieved through meaningful actions by all stakeholders, public and private.”
The Ilembe population has been growing steadily over the past 10 years at a rate of close to one percent a year and now is home to more than 650 000 people, mostly in the Mandeni and KwaDukuza municipal areas.
