The high level of crime in KwaDukuza has called for divine intervention.
These were the sentiments of the KZN MEC for education Mthandeni Dlaugwana who led an interfaith prayer for social ills that include murder, political killings, taxi violence and women and child abuse in the district at Groutville last week.

MEC Dlungwana was accompanied by all the mayors in the district as well the district chairperson of the House of Traditional Leaders, Inkosi Bhengu. The prayer started with a blitz at Ndwedwe Taxi Rank to distribute flyers to raise awareness on social ills and to engage with the community on such issues.
The blitz was then followed by a peace walk from the taxi rank to Nombika Sports grounds where the event took place.
Addressing the crowd, Ilembe mayor Sduduzo Gumede urged the community to bring back the spirit of Ubuntu.
“As we are responding to the call of KZN Premier Willies Mchunu and King Zwelithini, the spirit of Ubuntu must be reignited by reporting wrongdoings in our communities.
“Bring back the stability in our communities and harmony,” said Gumede.
MEC Dlungwana said seeking divine intervention was the last resort for the government.
“It is in times like these where we need to reach out to the Almighty and ask for divine intervention. As believers, we are confident that God is going to hear our prayers and heal our province.”
