WATCH: Police use rubber bullets, teargas at ANCYL protest – Maphumulo

The Youth league claimed that the Spar had been exploiting workers and selling rotten food.

A protest by ANC Youth League members outside the Maphumulo Spar turned ugly this afternoon (Friday) after police fired rubber bullets and set off teargas to disperse the massive crowd.

The Youth league claimed that the Spar had been exploiting workers and selling rotten food.

After handing over a memorandum to the Spar management the crowd of over a thousand people remained outside the store and continued singing.

Police fired rubber bullets at the crowd and used teargas to disperse them.

A heated argument broke out between SAPS officers and a few youth league members, with one of the officers allegedly being hit in the face with a rock.

This is the second time the local ANCYL has engaged in protest action this month.

Last Friday almost 700 KwaDukuza ANC Youth League members forced their way onto the KwaDukuza Private Hospital property, causing thousands of Rands in damages to the newly built facility, calling for local employment.
